My role as a counsellor is to support you on your journey of growth. As such, I customize my approach to each individual's or group's needs.
In our initial consultation call, I will ask you a few questions about the kind of support you are looking for and I will suggest some options for what counselling could look like if we worked together.
I highly regard collaborating with my clients to ensure that their interests are best served. I strive to accomplish this by creating a safe space by:
Adopting a non-judgmental approach
Active and empathic listening
Facilitating collaboration and feedback
Ensuring confidentiality
Acknowledging the client’s experience
As a professional counsellor, I also integrate the following specific counselling modalities into my approach according to the client's needs:
Sand Tray therapy, a nonverbal, therapeutic intervention that makes use of a sandbox, toy figures, and sometimes water, to create scenes of miniature worlds that reflect a person’s inner thoughts, struggles, and concerns.
Motivational interviewing,a practical, empathetic counseling method that helps people resolve feelings of uncertainties and insecurities to find the internal motivation needed to make necessary lifestyle changes.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT),concentrates on finding solutions in the present time and exploring one’s hope for the future.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), is directed at present-time issues and based on the idea that the way an individual thinks and feels affects the way he or she behaves. The focus is on problem solving, and the goal is to change clients' thought patterns in order to change their responses to difficult situations.
Person-Centered Therapy, allows clients to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, they will discover their own solutions. The counsellor is there to encourage and support the client and to guide the therapeutic process without interrupting or interfering with the client’s process of self-discovery.
